Threesomed and more...

Readers always seem to be shocked when I tell them that I often avoid the sex scenes in my books until I absolutely have to deal with them. I guess the fact that my latest releases have been “ménage” stories probably leads many to think I’m not being entirely honest about this aversion. Believe me, no one is more surprised than I am by the recent turn of events. Two of the books are currently in the top ten best-sellers for the publisher who contracted them, and the third one is with my editor at Ellora’s Cave. Apart from the trio of lovers in these stories, when I wrote Stolen Rapture, I discovered one of my vampires was a dominant, and my heroine was waking to her submissive nature, so that was another new element for me. I have no idea if I’ll explore the BDSM angle further, but I never expected to touch it in the first place, so I no longer rule out any possibility.

In truth, I can’t really say that I’m wildly enamored of this kind of story, but it’s certainly been fun to flirt with the genre, and I might very well get back to it, if in small ways, for future stories. I like mixing genres as most of my readers know, so taking ménage, as requested by the publisher for their anniversary print release, (Threesomed, from New Dawning Book Fair and Amazon), then adding in a paranormal element with my sexy vampires–it was, I admit, a lot of fun! I had never really considered writing ménage tales, I’m primarily a “boy meets girl” writer, and the challenge is to make it fresh and interesting. Surprisingly, the current release has already inspired a number of requests for a further story, and it just might happen, even I don’t know the answer to that one just now.

"It's a pleasure to meet you, Cord hasn't told me a lot about you," she replied.

"I'm not surprised," Rahve answered. Falcon was genuinely amused. Cord watched him with thinly veiled suspicion. "Would you like a drink?"

"Thank you, that would be lovely."

Rahve was being summoned from the other side of the room and his dark eyes flickered with annoyance that was easily read. He excused himself and on his way to the agitated woman waving less than discreetly to him, he stopped and directed one of the waiters to bring her a glass of champagne.

"Be careful around him," Cord advised. "He's interested in you."

She stared at him, eyebrow raised. "You can tell that from hello, can you?"

"I've known Rahve a lot of years, baby," he said, tone ominous. "He enjoys dangerous games."

"And you don't?" There was ice in her voice, making the words caustic in tone.

Cord's blue and green gaze was hard when he met hers, and she shivered.

"You like my games," he stated. "Rahve plays by different rules."

She shrugged with false indifference and strolled into the crowd, fully aware of Cord's eyes watching every move she made. The night was going to be a long one. The thought had barely passed into her awareness when she felt someone staring at her, the look almost a tangible touch that brushed her spine and made her entire body tingle.

There are things Cord should have told you. Rahve's voice was inside her head somehow and she looked around, trying to locate him in the large crowd. Chills that had nothing to do with the actual temperature make her quiver. She closed her eyes, her equilibrium gone as the room faded to grey shadows. Her last thought was that she'd never fainted in her life, and this was not the time to start.

Adult Excerpt:

"So, what is it this woman does again?" Rahve asked with little real interest, but considerable amusement. Cord had been distracted for a week or more, since Rahve had sent him to the Grayson show. Cord glared at him and he laughed at the irritation in the other man's expression. Rahve shrugged and turned his attention back to the figures in front of him.

"We need to come up with something truly spectacular for the new line," Rahve murmured as he rapidly read the accounting figures, his agile brain processing numbers as quickly as the machine in front of him.

"Are you worried?"

Rahve's smile was sardonic. "Are you?"

"I want to design something for Deluna's next show."

Rahve sat back in his chair and eyed the younger man. "Tell me about her."

It wasn't a request and they both knew it.

"Why don't you come with me and you can judge for yourself?" Challenge hung between them for a few minutes, then Rahve shrugged and rose from his seat. Cord was startled for about a heartbeat of time. He stood and grabbed his jacket off the back of his chair. "Have dinner with us."

Rahve's smile was contemptuous. "She doesn't know what you are, does she?"

"She knows everything she needs to know."

Scornful laughter lit Rahve's predatory eyes. "I haven't met a human yet who is that accepting of us, so I'll assume she doesn't know it's her blood you're lusting after more than her cunt."

"Stay away from her," Cord warned, "I'll tell her when I want her to know."

"You invited me to dinner," Rahve reminded him, laughter in his tone, "so let's go."

"I've changed my mind."

Rahve ignored his remark.

"What are you going to do if she falls for me?" Rahve asked as they headed for the parking garage under the Falcon's Flight office building.

"Kill your ass," Cord quipped. It was an old game, one he hated. Over the years, he'd lost more than one woman to Rahve's charm and power.

"Address?" Rahve asked when he'd stopped laughing.

Cord gave it to him and while he watched Rahve walk to his Ferrari, he wondered if Deluna would fall for him. Falcon had a remarkable effect on women, and she wasn't likely to be any more immune than most others. Rahve was an impressive male, six foot three, dark blond hair that was cut neat and stylish. He was built like a Roman statue, and he had more money than god…yeah, women loved him. For all kinds of reasons. A shadow whispered across his soul, an almost tangible harbinger of foreboding that made his teeth grind. Cord didn't like the vulnerability of fear, and he hated it even more when it was born in jealousy. Deluna hadn't even met Rahve and he was already worrying about her reaction to his boss....

Developing The Story Behind The Book

When I started writing for publication over ten years ago, I had no idea of the difference between a story and a novel. A story can ramble and turn and have no real destination. It doesn’t have to fit into a word count or page limit. It may not have a beginning, a middle and an end.

I usually start crafting a novel by developing the story first. When I began earnest work on my debut novel, Ultimate Justice, A Trey Fontaine Mystery, I knew what I wanted to accomplish, but not how to accomplish it. I knew I had a good story, but giving it a plot, structure, word count, suspense, mystery, and well-rounded characters meant really working on one piece of the problem at a time.

When it started, I had one person in first person POV and the rest in third person POV. As time passed, the person who maintained the first person POV changed. I couldn’t really decide what the novel was about. Was it about the FBI agent? Or the relationships between the characters? Or the crime itself? The lead character changed. I knew how the story would begin and end. I had no idea how to fill the middle with anything other than mud.

Plotting is my weakest skill. I worked on characters, then wrote a couple of chapters, then tried to plot a little, then wrote a little more. The first draft was a real ugly duckling. The plot had huge holes. The timing was way off. Character description changed with no explanation, except that I’d forgotten eye color, or age. But I knew that deep inside that really bad writing was a good novel and a really good story.

My ‘What ifs’ included love and hate, good and evil, flawed and flat out crazy. All those books I’d written before, you know, the ones under the bed, were nothing compared to this. I read books, read articles, talked to authors I admire, and kept trying to increase my skill to a level that would do the novel justice. I think I learned fifty new skills before I finally managed to stumble upon a process that half-way works for me.

My cast of characters increased drastically, and I kept thinking that no editor would buy a newbie’s debut novel if it had too many POV characters, or the plot was too complicated. But I couldn’t help myself. Each character serves a purpose, and I handle POV pretty well. I can’t write an uncomplicated plot. Every character has his or her own story, life, plans and problems. And each character is affected by the actions of the others.

This particular story came from a mixture of my own experiences, including a run in with a serial killer, my education and employment in law and law enforcement, and people I’ve known.

What if a drug-addicted FBI agent had to deal with an old flame while trying to solve three sets of crimes? What if the criminal was very young—a child? What if each character had to face obstacles like prejudice, sexism, drug addiction, abuse, neglect, grief, or some other major ongoing issue to deal with while trying to do their jobs, or not get caught doing something? So the story began chronologically, years before the novel. The story began with the relationships between all the characters. Once each character was fully defined, and set against each other, the plot fell into place, the sagging middle had liposuction, and with a little guidance by a wonderful editor, the end was perfect.

Vincent‟s face changed just the slightest bit, but it was enough to know he was suspicious. She wanted to kick herself, but the shock of his departure was just too much and not being a full Animal Elf, she didn't have the insane control over her emotions that he did. It didn't help that her witch half was extremely emotional. Most days, she wavered from one extreme to the other.

“Blaze will be near if you have need of anything while I‟m away,” Vincent said with clear warning.

Ever pulled on that space inside of her where her Animal Elf instincts were held and blanked her look. “Lovely, now I think I will go rest.” She stood smoothly and left the room without another word, but she felt both their gazes on her as she went.

She managed to hold it together until she reached her room. With a quick probe of her Animal Elf senses, she found no animals about to spy for Vincent, something she was constantly afraid of. This is what had made it easier to sit around and pretend. Ever took a breath, concentrated on feeling the universe and pushed her frustrations and fears down.

She felt something then, a powerful pull. Ever threw herself at it, not caring who it would take her to. If the universe was answering her call for help, then it had to be where she needed to go. A split second later, she was stunned to find herself looking at the most beautiful creature she had ever seen.

Too bewildered to make a move of contact, Ever just stared at her. She was asleep, her black shoulder length hair perfectly framing her pale face. Whenever I discuss my latest book, Sloane Wolf, people often ask me, Why Wolves? And I have to say, why not? Wolves are fantastic creatures that mate for life and are truly faithful to their mates (from what I’ve read), and we humans could learn a lot from them.

As it pertains to my book, however, it was rather serendipitous that I ended up writing about wolves. I didn’t intentionally set out to do so, but a series of events conspired to make it happen. The first event came in the form of a book that was ultimately made into a movie that got me to thinking – and anybody who knows me can tell you that when I get to thinking, things begin to happen…in a writing sense that is! I can turn the smallest nugget of an idea into a story, if motivated enough to do so, and that is how this story started out, as just a nugget. So there I was, inspired by this other book/movie enough that certain scenes kept kicking up in my head (ahem, fight scene), but content just to imagine it in my head.

Until event number two happened. That would be a contest that an electronic publishing company was running with the theme of – you guessed it – wolves. And so I thought, why not? I had some interesting scenes kicking around in my head, the contest was for a novella length story, so I had enough to accomplish that. And with the help of event number three – discovering an article about gray wolves returning to Massachusetts after a100-plus year absence – a true story began to formulate with legends of wolves and why they “reappeared” in the state after such a long absence. Wow, I thought, this was really going to be something, if I could get it all together in time.

Trouble was, once I started writing, I just kept on writing and I over-shot the word count. One thing I forgot when I set out to enter this contest: I have never been able to write short. I keep trying, but I usually have so much to say, it doesn’t conform well to short stories or novellas. Not wanting to cut anything to fit the guidelines, I simply finished the book for me. And by the time I was finished with it, I knew that I had to try to get it published anyway, I felt that strong about it. And after several fits and starts, I finally found the right publisher for it in Muse it Up Publishing.

So there you have it. The serendipitous events that led to the birth of Sloane Wolf.

Shiloh nearly leapt off the sill as his hand touched her knee. It took every ounce of willpower she possessed to remain seated and appear undaunted by the gesture. “I am…much better now…thank you,” she said, becoming more unnerved by the presence of his hand by the minute. Oh, this was not good, not good at all. The longer it remained there, the stronger her impulse to bolt became. Oh, no…

What was it about this man that rattled her so and with so little effort on his part? Sharing the same air with him was enough to send her pulses to the moon—and her mind somewhere else, something new for her. Being this attracted to a man was beyond her realm of experience. She didn’t know what to do with it—or about it. Should she do anything? Should she pretend indifference? And why wasn’t he so deeply affected? It wasn’t fair.

Still confused, she gave him a weak smile, intent on backing up her previous claim with the gesture. She feared it failed miserably. When Micah returned her smile and lifted his hand from her knee, she felt precisely one second of relief before he shook her world again by caressing her face in parting. She stumbled

back against the frame of the window, her lips parting on a startled breath as a lightning bolt shot through her at his touch. Something flickered in his eyes at her reaction—pain, perhaps—and he retracted his hand, balling it into a fist as he turned away from her, preparing to depart.

In an instant, she realized her mistake. Along with it came the knowledge she couldn’t let him go away angry or upset. After everything he and his family had done for her, she owed him that much. She grabbed him by the shirtfront to stop him, and a shock of awareness shot from her hand directly into his heart, just beneath it. She could see it in the gaze he leveled on her then, could hear it in his breath trapped within his lungs, feel it in the missed beat of his heart. But then, all sense abandoned her, and her heart skipped a beat as he held her hand firmly to his chest with one of his own and lifted the other to her head, anchoring it against the window frame. Slowly, his eyes never straying from hers, he leaned across the space separating them. His lips brushed hers, like a whisper, before he withdrew, tilted his head to the side, and advanced again. This time the kiss was fuller, penetrating her every defense, both physical and emotional, but still not long enough for her. He retreated once again after a fraction of time and hovered before her, scarcely an inch away. Watching her. Waiting.

Her heart beating a frantic tempo now, Shiloh abandoned all of her reservations and her good sense to swoop in for a more vigorous kiss. So vigorous, in fact, she knocked him off his perch through the open window. Only quick reflexes honed to perfection at the Institute prevented her from tumbling after him.

Bracing herself against the sill, she leaned out the window as far as she was able and watched his descent from the slanted roof to the ground below. She lost sight of him the moment he slid beyond the reach of the light from her window. But then she heard him land with a thud —and a howl—on the ground in front of the back porch when he failed to catch himself on the roof edge. She clasped a hand over her mouth to silence her reaction and waited. When he didn’t rouse right away, panic shot through her and she leaned out another few inches.

“Micah? Are you okay?”

“Fine,” he answered after a few moments, appearing beyond the overhang of the roof as if to prove it to her. “Nothing hurt but what’s left of my pride.”

Relief coursed through her at his statement, and she allowed herself the laugh she’d literally held back before. Her mirth was cut short, however, by his next words.

“Hey, Shiloh! We’ve got to stop falling for each other like this.”

His laughter followed her as she ducked back into the room. She could still hear it even after she closed the window, though not as well. Oh, Lord. She rested against the cool pane of glass and touched her still-tingling lips with shaky fingers. Was she? Falling for him? Was that what this crazy-mad feeling inside of her was?

The question plagued her long into the night.

2011 has been a year of learning, transformation and growth for me. I think I’ve learned more in this past year about myself than I knew in the past five. With every pitfall I’ve endured I’ve found joy and happiness in the little things in life. Our world is filled with chaos, yet if you stop amidst all the craziness you might just find something to smile about.

In 2012 I hope you all live life to its fullest. Every day we draw breath is an amazing gift. We know it won’t last forever, but we can sure enjoy it and never take it for granted while we have it.

This week I’ve had the joy of having two novels released, one by Class Act Books and one by The Wild Rose Press. Both are futuristic romances, teetering on the edge of science fiction, and one’s subject matter caused a bit of controversy and concern for the publisher. I had fun writing both of these stories because they offered such a disparity on the theme of romance.

Variation, my new novel from The WildRose Press isn’t, in spite of its subject matter, an M/M or ménage novel. Instead, it’s the story of what happens when a very strict, prudish man is partnered with someone whose life is diametrically opposed to his own.

What happens when the girl of your dreams is also the man from your waking life?

Federation agent Gabriel Marsh finds himself asking just that question when he’s teamed with Aleksandr Karanov. Lexei’s pretty as a picture and deadly as a cobra; he’s also a variant, a mutant who can change sex at will, something which just may come in handy on their new assignment. Marsh, however, has some adjusting to do where his new partner’s concerned—both morally and emotionally. His association with Lexei is ambivalent at best, prejudicial at worst, and the way he’s beginning to feel about Deirdre, Lexei’s female Other Self doesn’t even bear thinking about.

Damn it, I’m falling in love with a woman who doesn’t exist!

EXCERPT:

The doors opened automatically as he approached them and he went inside. Standing in the lobby, he glanced around. It was stark and modern, done in unrelieved white and chrome, glittering and antiseptic. There was furniture in the lobby and genuine living greenery in ceramic urns making a backdrop to the set-up, but no people around. Vaguely, he was thankful for that. At least no one’s seen me going in.

From somewhere above him, he could hear music, and without knowing why, decided to follow the sound. He didn’t even check for Karanov’s name on the tenant register. Would it actually be there?

The music led him up two flights of non-escalating stairs to a door in the center of the hallway, a door which, when he tapped the inter-com pad, slowly swung open. Suspecting a trick, he stepped to one side, carefully pulled the Winchester TR-27 out of its shoulder holster and pushed the door completely open.

Cautiously, Marsh looked in. What he saw was unexpected but totally enjoyable.

A pair of softly rounded buttocks and slender white legs. A young woman, back to the door, doing some type of calisthenics. Bemidjian aerobics, if her gyrations were any indication. She appeared to be wearing nothing more than a towel and Marsh wondered how long it would be before her movements caused the tucked velourcloth rectangle to dislodge and end up on the carpet. He felt a flick of latent lust, wondering if he had enough time to wait and see. There was a headset over her ears and the way she was pausing slightly between each movement told him she was listening to a physical fitness lecture, and that, combined with the loudness of the music, was the reason she hadn’t heard his knock.

She finished the call and tossed the headset onto the counter of the little kitchenette and spun around. Damp curls bobbing, she was in the middle of a deep stretch making the breasts under the towel rise dangerously, when she saw Marsh standing there, gun in hand. Immediately, she squealed and fell against the counter. Scrambling behind it, she stood with arms crossed over her breasts, which were still pretty well covered as far as he could tell.

For just a minute, they stared at each other.

She recovered fast. Jerking the headset away from her ears, she tossed it on the counter, then touched a button on the control panel set into it. As the music died away, she said, without a quaver, “You must be Marsh, Lexei’s new partner. Come in, shut the door, and put away the hardware. We’re friendly here.”

The second novel is For the Love in Adler’s Brain, released by Class Act Books. This tale began as a short story and then grew into a novelette. It’s also about a threesome that’s also not the usual kind.

A man…a woman…her android lover…

When Rena Pearson hires Luc Kai’leel to find her boyfriend’s brain, he thinks the lady’s a little…shall we say…confused? Then he learns that Marcus Adler was an android, an EHR-1, to be exact, and the Federation’s best assassin. Adler wanted to quit killing and settle down with Rena. Instead, he’s blown to bits, and all that’s left is a tiny bit of his memory bank and that surviving chip is communicating with his mourning sweetheart.

The Federation also wants Adler’s brain, in order to access the secrets it holds. The android knew too much and they don’t dare let that information get away.

So Luc agrees to help, but only because he’s a romantic at heart. You see, he’s fallen in love with the damsel in distress. Now all he has to do is rescue Adler’s brain while he tries to convince the woman he loves that a real man is better than an artificial one.

How can you fight a rival when he exists only in a woman’s mind?

EXCERPT:

“Marcus was killed three weeks ago. Someone spot-bombed his car.” For just a moment, she looked tearful and, whether she was crazy or not, the sight momentarily tugged at his heart. “They didn't find enough to bury.”

“We can’t assume his brain went the way the rest of his body did?”

She ignored his remark. “I think the Federation was behind it.”

Oh, great! So she has a government-persecution complex on top of everything else. Silently, he wondered if this was a punishment of some kind. Out of all the investigation agencies on the planet, why did she have to choose his to bring her delusions to?

“The Federation?” he echoed, thinking just how stupid he sounded.

“There were Marshals everywhere immediately afterward. One of them found something in the wreckage. I saw him put it in a small plasticon-baggie.”The picture she was painting displayed itself luridly in his mind…twisted remains of what had been an automobile… black uniformed agent holding a soft, bloody object in his hands. “Later, when I asked him about it, he denied having found anything but I know better. It was Marcus’ brain. I know it was.”

A hand brushed at her eyes.

“How can you be so sure?”

“Marcus told me!”

Uh-oh! She’s worse off than I thought. Definitely certifiable, positively winged-out. Maybe dangerous?

Slowly, Luc’s left hand inched toward the red Emergency button in the telephone console on the left side of the desk. One tap and the med-techs at the local psychiatric hospital would be alerted; they and their air-borne ambulance could be here in three minutes, armed with tranquilizer guns and restraining gear. He had a moment’s regret at what he was about to do, but the girl definitely needed help. And not from me.

“I wouldn’t do that!” She saw the movement. His hand stopped, but as he started to deny the action, she placed her own on the little purse resting in her lap. “You might not like what would happen if I give this a squeeze.”

“What’ve you got in there?”

A bomb? Some type of poisonous gas in a capsule which would break when pressure was applied? He wasn’t going to do anything to find out. He placed both hands in the center of the desk, one over the other.

“That’s better.”

“Miss Powell, just tell me what’s so important about your boyfriend’s brain that someone would want to steal it?”

“It’s a positronic brain, Mr. Kai’Leel.” With her hand still on the purse, she relaxed a little, settling herself

“What’s your boyfriend’s last name?”

“Adler, after his creator.”

Turning to the desk unit, he typed in the two words. In a moment, he looked back at her. “There’s no Marcus Adler listed, deactivated or otherwise.”

“There wouldn't be.”

“No?”

She gave him a quiet, triumphant stare. “Have you ever heard of Moondeath, Mr. Kai’Leel?”

Of course, he had. Everyone had heard of Moondeath…the Federation’s ultimate killer, with a perfect record, the only assassin whose identity was a well-kept secret. No one knew his human name or what he looked like, and because of that, he’d achieved near folk-legend status among the civilian population, as well as making millionaires out of several men who’d bet their every tangible bit of property on his kills.

If Marcus Adler was Moondeath, and Moondeath was now defunct... She certainly had his attention now. “Maybe you’d better tell me everything.”

Today I’ve invited Regan Taylor to join me and talk about her latest release, Her Eyes from the Awe-struck imprint Mundania Press.

Regan, thank you so much for joining us today. When I first took a look at your book, Her Eyes the cover really captivated me. Her reflection looked so haunted that I literally had to read what the book was about. I must say the blurb didn’t disappoint. It’s no wonder it was voted 2008 Romantic Times Reviewers' Choice Nominee for Best Paranormal from a Small Press.

Thank you for having me! It’s a pleasure to chat with you.

How did you come up with the premise for your stories?

Mostly they come from life, day to day events. Her Eyes, had a slightly different genesis. I’ve always been interested in soul mates, reincarnation and past lives. I’m also a firm believer in organ donation. In Her Eyes, those driving interests came together after hearing about the first face transplant that was done in France several years ago. There were so many possibilities I had to write a story.

Once you sit down to write, do you find your stories write themselves? Or do you outline everything ahead of time so you know exactly what comes next?

Pretty much they write themselves. Well, sort of. I tend to dream each new scene and write them down in the morning when I wake up. I believe the stats that we use 10% of our mind – in waking life. I believe we tap into that other 90%, to some degree, in our dreams. If we pay attention, the creative aspects of that part of our mind come out in our dreams and that’s where my stories come from.

In your book, Her Eyes you named Frank’s dog, Win. It’s an unusual name, one you wouldn’t expect for a dog or even a person. LOL. I was wondering how you come up with names for your characters.

Win actually came from my friend, Jennifer Cloud. But my characters seem to name themselves. Something just resonates for a particular name. I have, in the past, done an impromptu contest for a character’s name, but mostly it just seems to fit.

In the very first chapter of Her Eyes you throw the reader into the emotions Catherine is feeling. Is this typical of all your books? Do you always grab the reader within the first few sentences?

I try. I need to be grabbed in the first few sentences of any book I read so I try to deliver the same.

Do you only write paranormal romance?

No, I also have a historical western series with Awe-struck, my Bride Series and a romantic suspense one with Siren-Bookstrand.

Is there other genre’s of writing you haven’t delved into, but are dying to sink your teeth into?

No. With time travel (which most of my books are) you can go anywhere, any time past, present or future and draw in elements of any other genre.

Even with a new boss constantly wanting to know every move she makes, she puts the job first and does what needs to be done. When Beck shows up wanting the maintenance job, she has to turn him away saying it has already been filled. Beck is not easily distracted, and finds Jenny in a precarious situation, wet, on the floor, and trying her best to fix a leaky pipe. Beck knows two things, one he can fix anything and two he wants Jenny.

A lot of fun, Jenny can be a bit of a pistol when she is trying to push Beck away, but Beck only finds her more irresistible. Some really humorous moments, Jenny seems to be a little accident prone and Beck is always is in the right place at the right time. Great book to put your feet up with.

Yay! It's my birthday! It's finally here. Time for presents and all sorts of fun! Plus, I've been dating this gorgeous guy from the football team...I've got tickets to see Def Leppard and Motley Crue in concert soon...Homecoming is right around the corner and....ohhhhh....*sigh*...that's right...I am NOT 17 anymore. Hmm...

Don't you love it when life catches up to you and you realize your youth is completely and utterly gone? Yep...me neither. LOL. The thing is, I'm not sure where mine went, or when it left. I mean for all intents and purposes I'm a grown up now. And the fact that, that doesn't scare me tells me that I think I've been one for awhile. Wow. Epiphany's come out of nowhere and just smack you in the face don't they?

So, I'm not 17 anymore, and I have adult responsibilities now just like my parents used to go on about. My days of making sure my black Mustang was clean and shiny before the weekend festivities are gone. They've now been replaced with dreading going to fill up the gas tank. I no longer am having to choose between which party I should go to on Friday night and which boy is cuter. Instead the parties are fewer and fewer as friends old and new are also no longer 17. And boys are no longer of interest, but MEN...well...they are a quite a delight. :)

Now...before all of you start trying to do the math between Def Leppard and Motley Crue's hay day of success and try to figure out how old I am, FORGET IT! I will never tell. Because its not how old I am that matters but how young I feel. So that pesky number means nada, zilch, nothing. In my mind, I am still young at heart. And as long as the young guys at the liquor store keep carding me with a smile and wink I feel confident that my way of thinking isn't so far off. :)

Now...everyone always says, "What do you want for your birthday?" And I'm supposed to come up with an answer that not only is reasonable but doesn't cost an arm and a leg. Really the question is pointless then because I'm a woman and don't we all want it all? LOL. Seriously though, my wishes would be more for others. An end to war would be nice. World peace with no more hurt or wounded, not to mention those that are dying. Or perhaps an end to world suffering. No more hunger or disease. An end to violence. No more murderers, rapists or predators. Wouldn't we all want for so much less if we lived in a world so full of peace?

But since I don't think any of you can make those things happen I figured I'd conjure up a little contest. So here goes...

A week of giving in honor of Lt. Michael Murphy, fallen USN SEAL

On June 28, 2005 our nation suffered a great loss, as Operation Red Wing took 11 Navy SEALs and 8 Army Night Stalkers from us. Many of you may have heard of the one remaining survivor and US Navy SEAL, Marcus Luttrell who penned the book Lone Survivor giving his account of what he and his team went through during the ordeal, however just recently more people have become aware of Lt. Michael Murphy who led the SEAL team that day in an effort to kill or capture Ahmad Shah, a Taliban leader. Lt. Murphy, known by some as "Murph" is being remembered in a book by Gary Williams, SEAL of Honor and more recently was honored by having the newest Naval Destroyer, USS Michael Murphy named after him. Lt. Murphy was posthumously awarded the Medal of Honor For conspicuous gallantry and intrepidity at the risk of his life and above and beyond the call of duty. While the memory of Lt. Murphy will live on in his family, friends and team members, he serves as a reminder to many of us that our U.S. Military puts their country before self and are willing to pay the ultimate sacrifice for our freedoms and liberties.

With that being said, there is an annual fundraiser known as Memorial Day Murph which consists of a workout dubbed the "Body Armor" and was said to be Lt. Murphy's favorite workout. The workout consists of (in this order): 1 mile Run, 100 Pull-ups, 200 Push-ups, 300 Squats, and lastly 1 mile Run. There are three organizations which will benefit from this fundraiser. They are:

LT Michael P. Murphy Memorial Scholarship Foundation

Lone Survivor Foundation

The Wounded Warrior Project

Now, to my purpose behind this entry...For those of you who know my writing, you are aware that I have written three books about Navy SEALs, which I refer to as my Sweet Series. Soon, the two find themselves in an erotic game of pleasure. Their affair proves to be more than either of them anticipated. After only a couple of days their relationship intensifies into a firestorm of passion and they begin to fall in love.

Claudia works with them both and isn’t happy when Mitch rejects her advances. Not willing to take no for an answer she uses every form of manipulation to drive the couple apart. Is their relationship strong enough to handle the betrayal that they believe to be true? Or will the thought of losing each other be the catalyst to keep them together?

While working as a secretary, young and inexperienced Sara meets the more experienced Mitch. Once the two begin to hit it off a romance begins but there is another who wants Mitch for her own. Claudia has her eyes set on Mitch and intends to have him for her own at any costs even at the expense of other people’s lives. Can Mitch and Sara find love or will Claudia get what she wants?

This was an interesting story about finding true love and many of the trials and tribulations that go with it. I enjoyed watching the young and naïve Sara grow into a confident and sexual woman. Mitch may be overwhelming at times but the reader can see it is because of the intense feelings he has for Sara.

The love and the bond of trust that develops between Sara and Mitch was a good read. I love the way Mitch brings Sara out of her shell and not only tells her but shows her how much he adores her. These two characters endear themselves to the reader as much as Claudia gets you to hate her. Claudia is a manipulative woman with only her sexual pleasures on the agenda. When she achieves her goals, you begin to feel bad for the people she manipulates. The more you read this story the more you begin to wonder just why the others let Claudia manipulate them as well as she does. I for one was surprised at the turn of events that lead to the big revelations of why Claudia had so much control.

Nicole Morgan pulls the reader into the world of Sara and Mitch, easily keeping you there until the end. This book is a well-written and fast-paced page-turner that should not be missed.
